 Le
Vauclin
Le Vauclin is a large fishing village facing the
Atlantic Ocean. Its is very quiet and maintains a peaceful rhythm.
You could stop here for a light meal whilst visiting the nearby
beach of Macabou or Pointe Faula. There is also a traditional fish
market.
The Bays of Francois and Robert, even though
they are not all that popular with the crowds, have always attracted
the higher classes of Martinique because of their beauty. Today all
the Ilets (that is how the small islands are called) are private and
host one or more villas or homes that are lived in, usually, only
during the weekends.
Water sports and activities are very popular in the bay: catamaran
sailing, fonds blancs excursions, sea kayaks, kite surf and diving
along the coral reef.
Le
François
The region surrounding Le Francois is considered
the most fertile of the south. Essentially an agricultural
community, the area’s main tourist focus are the Habitation
Clément, its small islands and Fonds Blancs.
From
le Francois depart numerous trips to the islands, to visit the Fonds
Blancs and Baignoire de Josephine or simply to admire the stupendous
water and white sandy beaches.
The Ilets du François
are 8, some privately owned, some deserted and others with simple
shelters. The access is possible for the beaches of Ilet Oscar, Ilet
Long et Ilet Thierry.
There are many excursions organized both with
sailboats and with motor boats. If you wish to “do it yourself” you
can obtain more information with the local fishermen at the port of
Francois or at the Marina of the Baie du Simon. The more sporty can
reach the Ilets in kayak.
